When should I call 911?
To report an emergency that requires an immediate response from police officers, fire department, or an ambulance.
To report a situation that poses an immediate danger to life or property.
When there is a suspicious activity involving a person(s) or a vehicle that appears to have immediate criminal intent.
For any situation that requires the immediate assistance of an officer.
To report a serious crime, such as kidnapping, arson, or sexual assault.
Remain calm and patient while dispatcher asks you questions. Dispatchers need to know: who, what, when, where, and why. Dispatchers will determine what type of assistance to send.
Stay on the line until the dispatcher tells you to hang up.
When should I call the non-emergency number?
The non-emergency number is (509) 634-2472
To report a nuisance, such as a noise or parking complaint.
To report a crime that did not just occur and the suspect(s) is not in the immediate area.
When you have questions about police activity in your area.
The dispatcher will determine how best to assign your call. Calling 911 for a non-emergency situation does not make your call move to the head of the line; in most cases, it will delay the communication process.
